SOLON — STC junior Ayden Wobeter’s golf game is heating up as the season is winding down. The STC boys golf team traveled to Saddleback Ridge golf course in Solon on Monday, May 11, to participate in the WaMaC Conference Supermeet. The annual meet is a competition that brings together all twelve teams in the WaMaC conference. Always a conference with tough competition, the WaMaC currently has four teams ranked in the top 25 of class 3A, according to the Iowa High School Golf Coaches Association.

Finishing in an impressive 4th place overall at the meet, Wobeter’s efforts earned him a spot on the WaMaC all-conference first team. He shot -2 for the day, finishing only behind Grinnell junior Levi Jack (-5), Marion junior Grady Oleson (-4), and West Delaware senior Colson Mersch (-2).

Also competing for the Trojans were: junior Michael Henry (+8), sophomore Luke Schlabaugh (+15), freshman Grant Dolezal (+20), senior Garrett Surman (+25), and freshman Dalton Surman (+32).

Wobeter also led the way for the Trojans at the team’s previous outing. STC hosted the annual STC Invite on Friday, May 8, at the Tama/Toledo Country Club. Wobeter shot a 73 and finished in 9th place during the meet to set the pace for the Trojans. As a team, the Trojans finished in 8th place with a score of 330. Other teams competing included: Marion (278), Columbus Catholic (292), Grinnell (300), Grundy Center (308), Sigourney (314), Vinton-Shellsburg (320), and Benton (330).

Up next for the STC boys golf team will be the start of the postseason. Happening after press-time, the Trojans travel to Webster City on Wednesday, May 13, to compete at the Class 3A sectionals. Teams and individuals advancing from that will compete at the Class 3A Districts on Monday, May 18, in Atlantic.
