Kopsa leads girls golf to triangular win

SHELLSBURG — The STC girls golf team traveled to Wildcat Golf Course in Shellsburg on Wednesday, May 6, to compete at a Triangular hosted by Vinton-Shellsburg. The Trojans took home the team title from the meet (218), beating out Vinton-Shellsburg (235) and Center Point-Urbana (255).

STC was led by senior Ella Kopsa, who finished as the runner-up medalist after shooting a 47 on the day. Vinton-Shellsburg senior Cadee Redlinger was the overall winner, shooting one stroke better than Kopsa.

Also competing for the Trojans were: freshman Catherine Hardon, freshman Kendra Svacina, sophomore Layla Pansegrau, and sophomore Shelby Johannsen, and junior Taylor Dolezal.

Up next for the girls golf team is their final home appearance of the season: the STC Invite on Monday, May 18. It will be held at the Tama/Toledo Country Club and will include teams from: Benton, Grinnell, Independence, Marion, Nevada, and Vinton-Shellsburg.

The Trojans will then begin postseason play when they compete at the Class 3A, Region 4 regional meet. STC will travel to Williamsburg and play the Stone Creek Golf Club. Other teams participating in that region will include Benton, Marion, Vinton-Shellsburg, Williamsburg, and seven other schools.
