Six Trojans punch their ticket to Drake Relays

Six STC track and field athletes have qualified to compete at the 2026 Drake Relays. Two boys and four girls will make the trip to Des Moines on April 22-25 to run and throw around the prestigious blue oval.
The girls 4×100 team of Brylee Nelson, Scout Ridout, Sydney Arp, and Maylee Rucker will take to the track at 9:40 a.m. on Saturday morning, April 25, for the preliminary heats of the relay. All four girls are sophomores and they ran a season-best time of 51.46 on Thursday, April 16, at the East Marshall Girls Invite. Should the girls qualify for the 4×100 finals, that race will be held on Saturday, April 25, at 2:35 p.m.
Senior Timmothy Chandonia qualified for the Trojans in the shot put. It is the second year in a row that Chandonia has made it to the Drake Relays. His best throw this season came at the Dickinson Relays at UNI on March 9, where his toss reached 54-03.75. Chandonia will compete at the blue oval at 9 a.m. on Friday, April 24.
The final qualifier for STC is senior Cadel Conner. Conner qualified in the 1600, with a season-best time of 4:21 at the Eastern Iowa Track & Field Festival in Iowa City on Saturday, April 11. He will run the 1600 at Drake at 4:36 p.m. on Saturday, April 25. Conner is in his first year of competing for the Trojans, after transferring from Grinnell this school year.
