Wrestling programs honor athletes

Several awards were handed out within both the STC boys and girls wrestling programs at the winter activities banquet held on Monday night, March 2.
Boys head coaches Bailey Chyma and Levi Kaufman recognized senior Marcus Bear for competing at the state wrestling meet this February in Des Moines. In addition, Bear, junior Kyle Youngbear, junior Manny Cervantes, and sophomore Lakyr Peska were recognized as team captains this season. Youngbear and senior Garrett Surman were honored as being a part of the WaMaC conference all-academic team.
On the girls’ side, head coach Jason Arp recognized several athletes for their contributions this season. Eight girls were honored for their qualification at the state wrestling meet in Coralville: seniors Autumn Elsbury and Ava Hendricks; juniors Livia Smith, Paisley Bro, Brooklyn Mitchell, Ava Perkins, and Kinley Jimenez; and sophomore Maylee Rucker. Nine wrestlers earned a spot on the all-WaMaC conference team, including: Elsbury (1st team), Rucker (1st team), Smith (1st team), Jimenez (1st team), freshman Miyah Grabenbauer (2nd team), Perkins (honorable mention), Mitchell (honorable mention), Bro (honorable mention), and freshman Gianna Boswell (honorable mention).
Earning a spot on the WaMaC all-academic team were: Perkins, Elsbury, Hendricks, senior Taylor Johannsen, and junior Ioleta Kingbird. Captains for the 2025-2026 girls wrestling team included: Perkins, Elsbury, Hendricks, and sophomore Jayva Gomez.
