STC girls earn WaMaC honors

Three STC girls basketball players have been honored by the WaMaC West conference for their performance this season. Released on Feb. 25, the WaMaC’s annual awards recognized Trojan sophomore Dyan Keahna, senior Rylee Ridout, and sophomore Cahysia Kapayou.

Keahna earned a spot on the west conference’s second team. She was STC’s leading scorer this season with 207 total points. Keahna also led the team in field-goal percentage (36.6%), 3-pointers made (34), and 3-point percentage (35.4%). She was second in free-throw percentage (59%), fifth in rebounding (57), sixth in assists (11), and tied for third in steals (43).

Ridout was recognized on the WaMaC honorable mention list. The lone senior on this year’s squad, Ridout was the Trojan’s leading rebounder with 106 boards. She also ranked fourth in assists (15), fourth in field-goal percentage (27.1%), fifth in scoring (56 points), fifth in steals (22), and fifth in free-throw percentage (47.4%).

Likewise, Kapayou earned honorable mention by the conference. The sophomore was STC’s second leading scorer on the season with a total of 152 points. She was the team’s top free-throw shooter (68%) and ranked second on the team in 3-pointers made (19), steals (50), and assists (35). Kapayou also ended the season third in field-goal percentage (28%).

STC participates in the West half of the WaMaC conference, which includes six schools: Benton, Clear Creek-Amana (CCA), Grinnell, STC, Vinton-Shellsburg, and Williamsburg. CCA led this year’s recipients with three girls on the first team and the West’s Player of the Year in senior Averie Lower.
