Meskwaki girls net four all-conference honorees

The Meskwaki girls basketball team’s impressive season was recognized by the Iowa Star South Conference when they recently handed out their end-of-season honors. A quartet of Warriors were awarded, including junior Dorothy Bear, freshman Martha Blackcloud, freshman Bree Scabbyrobe, and junior Eva Roberts.
Both Bear and Blackcloud were honored on the conference’s prestigious first-team. This season, Bear led the team in scoring (312 points), rebounding (163), and 3-point percentage (28.9%). She also ranked second in steals (71), and third in assists (58).
Blackcloud, in her freshman campaign this winter, led the Warriors in steals (100), assists (75), free-throw percentage (76.7%), and field-goal percentage (47.4%). She was the team’s second leading scorer (239 points) and fifth leading rebounder (70).
Scabbyrobe received her recognition on the Iowa Star south’s second team. The freshman was fourth on the team in: scoring (176 points), rebounding (80), assists (43), steals (54), and free-throw percentage (60.8). She was second on the team in 3-point percentage (28.1%), and third in field-goal percentage (43.3%).
Finally, Roberts was named to the conference’s honorable mention list. She was Meskwaki’s third leading scorer (177 points), and ranked fifth in assists (42), fifth in steals (43), seventh in rebounding (46) and eighth in field-goal percentage (35.2%).
The Warriors finished with a record of 18-4 this year, on their way to winning the south portion of the Iowa Star. That portion of the conference is made up of eight teams: Meskwaki, Baxter, BCLUW, Collins-Maxwell, Colo-Nesco, GMG, North Tama, and Valley Lutheran.
