Head Coach Heath Brown and the Meskwaki girls basketball team are on a roll this season, going 16-3 in the regular season and winning the Iowa Star South Conference. Along the way, they have swept their three county rivals: STC, and two wins over both North Tama and GMG. And now, the Warriors have won their first two playoff contests on their quest to qualify for the 2026 state tournament in Des Moines.
In their first postseason game on Thursday, February 12, the host Warriors dominated the BCLUW Comets, 67-19, in the class 1A, Region 5 playoff bracket. Meskwaki was led in scoring by a pair of freshmen: Bree Scabbyrobe (24) and Martha Blackcloud (20). Junior Eva Roberts (13), sophomore Isabella Bear (4), junior Karsyn Wolf (4), and junior Sade Kapayou (2) rounded out the scoring for the Warriors. Bear and Scabbyrobe led the team in rebounds (9), while Blackcloud contributed 6 steals on defense.
Following their opening round win, Meskwaki’s next playoff opponent was GMG on Tuesday night, February 17. Facing the Wolverines for the third time this season, the Warriors won in dominating fashion, 73-42. In their three games combined this season, Meskwaki outscored GMG 200-122.
Meskwaki (18-3) will now face North Union (14-8) on Friday, February 20, at North Union high school in Armstrong. Should the Warriors win that contest, they will play in the regional final for the right to go to the state tournament in Des Moines, to be held on March 2-7.
