WINTHROP — The STC girls wrestling team won their fourth tournament of the season when they traveled to Winthrop on Saturday, Jan. 17, for the Marilyn Tournament at East Buchanan High School. Previously winning invitationals this season at STC, Williamsburg, and Brooklyn, the Trojans continued to put together an impressive season when they placed every wrestler in the top-five of their weight class in Winthrop.

STC was led by four wrestlers who won the individual championship in their weight class. Senior Ava Hendricks (115 lbs.), freshman Miyah Grabenbauer (120 lbs.), sophomore Maylee Rucker (140 lbs.), and senior Autumn Elsbury (170 lbs.) all took first place on the day.

Four Trojan wrestlers finished just short of the championship in their weight class, finishing in second place. Sophomore Isabela Saban Perez (105 lbs.), junior London Jaennette (120 lbs.), freshman Gianna Boswell (125 lbs.), and junior Ava Perkins (135 lbs.) all finished as runners-up.

Ten remaining Trojans secured top-five finishes at East Buchanan. These included: junior Livia Smith (3rd, 100 lbs.); freshman Abigail Hendricks (5th, 100 lbs.); junior Alyssa Kriegel (5th, 115 lbs.); freshman Layla Webb (4th, 125 lbs.); junior Brooklyn Mitchell (3rd, 130 lbs.); junior Ruby Gomez (5th, 135 lbs.); freshman Addysin Gross (4th, 145 lbs.); junior Paisley Bro (5th, 145 lbs.); sophomore Decorah Walker (3rd, 155 lbs.); and freshman Ericka Rivera (3rd, 235 lbs.).

STC won the invitational with a total of 178 points, just beating out Decorah (176). Host East Buchanan came in third (108), followed by West Delaware (79) and MFL MarMac (66.5).

The Trojans now turn their attention to the annual WaMaC meet. They will travel to host Vinton-Shellsburg on Friday, Jan. 23 to defend their conference title. STC won last year’s meet by 87 points over Vinton-Shellsburg. In that meet, STC crowned three individual conference champions: Elsbury, Bro, and Perkins.
