Boys wrestling finishes 10th at PCM
MONROE — The STC boys wrestling team placed 10th at the PCM invitational in Monroe on Saturday, Jan. 10. Competing in a 15-team field, the Trojans finished with 87.5 points just behind 9th place Panorama (90.5) and 8th place Chariton (93.5).
STC crowned one champion at PCM — senior Marcus Bear at 175 lbs. Bear won four matches on the day, with the semifinal win coming against Nevada’s Isaac Williams. Bear pinned Williams at the 3:22 mark of the match. In the championship, Bear won by fall over Frontenac’s Alec Douglas at the 5:09 mark.
The Trojan’s next highest finisher was sophomore Lakyr Peska, who finished 2nd at 285 lbs. Peska won by decision over Iowa Falls-Alden’s Trayvahn Williams in the semifinal match. In the championship, Peska fought hard but fell to Southeast Polk’s Nate Sleh by fall at the 2:58 mark.
Other wrestlers scoring team-points for STC included: freshman Israel Zamarron-Acosta (5th, 126 lbs.), sophomore Izak Schroeder (6th, 132 lbs.), and senior Josh Strong (6th, 190 lbs.).
The boys wrestling team will travel to Hudson on Saturday, Jan. 17, to compete at the annual Hudson Wrestling Tournament. Teams competing with the Trojans in Hudson will include: East Marshall, BCLUW, Columbus Catholic, and North Fayette, among others.
