FORT DODGE — Meskwaki freshman Bree Scabbyrobe closed out her first high school cross-country season in record fashion Saturday at the Iowa Class 1A Girls State Meet, placing 77th overall in 21 minutes, 26.9 seconds at Lakeside Municipal Golf Course.

Her time marks the fastest finish ever by a Meskwaki runner on the state course, surpassing Shye Johnson’s 22:13 performance for 75th place in 2020. Scabbyrobe earned her trip to Fort Dodge after placing 10th (20:59.4) at the Class 1A District 7 qualifier in Jewell, becoming just the second Meskwaki athlete to qualify for the state cross-country meet.

Scabbyrobe’s 2025 campaign featured steady improvement throughout the fall and set a new benchmark for the Meskwaki program. Despite being only a freshman this season, Scabbyrobe will return next year with experience unlike any Warrior before her.
