The STC volleyball team opened up postseason play by traveling to Solon high school on Thursday, October 16, for the annual WaMaC conference tournament.

In their first match of the evening, the Trojans had a difficult draw in facing class 3A #11 ranked Center Point-Urbana. Though STC battled hard, they fell to the Stormin’ Pointers, 2-1. Leading the way for the Trojans in the match was sophomore Stella Zmolek with 9 kills. She was followed by junior co-captain Paisley Bro (4), senior co-captain Rylee Ridout (3), and sophomore Scout Ridout (3). Sophomore Maylee Rucker led STC with 18 assists. Bro and sophomore Keinzle Boriskey each contributed 6 blocks. Zmolek and Rucker served one ace apiece in the match.

In their second contest of the evening, the Trojans faced Vinton-Shellsburg. Having defeated the Vikings two weeks earlier on senior night, STC looked to even their record at the WaMaC tournament. The Trojans did just that with a nice bounce-back win, 2-0.

Rucker led the Trojans against the Vikings with 4 kills. She was followed by Bro and Zmolek, who each contributed 3 kills in the match. Scout Ridout, sophomore Shelby Johannsen, and junior Mady Boriskey each scored 2 kills. Rucker contributed another 12 assists against Vinton, with Zmolek and Johannsen both chipping in 2 blocks. Johannsen also served 3 aces against the Vikings, with Rucker and sophomore Sydney Arp contributing 2 aces each.

STC (19-17) was next scheduled to play the Pella Christian Eagles in the class 3A, region 3 quarterfinals on Tuesday night, October 21.
