Jesina earns All-WaMaC honors

For the second year in a row, STC senior Barrett Jesina has earned first-team WaMaC all-conference honors by finishing in the top 10 in the annual conference cross country meet. Traveling to Cedar Rapids on Thursday, October 16, Jesina finished in 8th place overall with a time of 16:27. It is yet another honor in the storied running career for Jesina. This week he will look to qualify for the state cross country meet for the third year in a row.
In other results for the boys’ team, Jesina was followed by senior Jovanie Perez, who finished in 69th place (20:02). Perez was followed by freshman Riley Stubbs (75th place; 22:05), freshman Nolan Arp (76th place; 22:08), and freshman Kyler Johnson (78th place; 23:30).
The boys finished 11th as a team in the race. Mount Vernon took first place (34), followed by Grinnell (64) and Clear Creek-Amana (89).
In the girls’ competition, STC entered three runners into the conference JV race. The team was led by sophomore Jayva Gomez, who finished in 57th place with time of 27:36. Gomez was followed by sophomore Cahysia Kapayou (65th place; 28:20.0) and junior Livia Smith (66th place; 28:20.3).
The STC cross country team will participate in the state-qualifying meet on Wednesday, October 22 (4:00 p.m.). The Trojans were assigned to the meet to be held in Williamsburg, which will be the third time STC has run at that site this season. The state cross country meet for class 3A will be held in Fort Dodge on Friday afternoon, October 31.
