MONTEZUMA — Personal records abounded and the winning streak continued when the STC cross country team competed at the annual Montezuma Invite on Thursday, Oct. 9.
For the eighth year in a row, the Trojan boys won the team-title in the event.
“I’m really proud of the boys all around,” said head coach Edgar Tapia. “Everybody ran great times and it’s great to see how happy the guys are with the win.”
The Trojans were led by senior Barrett Jesina, who finished in first place with a new personal-record time of 16:21. Jesina was joined by two other top-ten finishers in freshman Max Schirmer (6th place, 18:22) and sophomore Brady Jesina (7th place; 18:30). The times for Schirmer and Jesina both represented personal-bests. Rounding out the team’s finish was senior Jovanie Perez (21st place; season best 19:45); freshman Riley Stubbs (28th place; personal best 20:33); freshman Kyler Johnson (51st place; personal best 23:09); and freshman Nolan Arp (55th place; personal best 24:10).
The winning streak represents a special feat for the team, especially seniors Barrett Jesina and Perez.
