South Tama freshman football moves to 4-1
South Tama’s Freshman/Sophomore football team moved to 4-1 on the season after defeating Williamsburg 34-0 on Friday, Sept. 27.
Sophomore Josiah Houghton was the star of the game for the Trojans, after recording an incredible stat-line of: four interceptions (including one returned for a touchdown), one fumble recovery, and returning the opening kickoff of the game back for a touchdown.
After Houghton’s opening touchdown, STC added two touchdowns in the first half. A 6-yard touchdown run by freshman quarterback Ryan Brant was followed by an 8-yard touchdown run by freshman running back Tucker Chandonia. On defense, the Trojan’s forced a total of five Williamsburg turnovers in the first half, including two of Houghton’s interceptions, and interceptions by both freshman Ethan Page and freshman Alfredo Villa. At the end of the first half, the score was an 18-0, Trojans.
In the third quarter, the defenses of both teams held strong, keeping the score at 18-0. But as the fourth quarter started, Houghton’s fourth interception of the game was returned for a touchdown. And with a successful 2-point conversion run by Page, the score stood at 26-0. On the next Trojan possession, Brant broke off a 56-yard touchdown run. A 2-point conversion run by sophomore Eli Cruikshank gave the Trojans the final-victory score of 34-0.
The Trojan freshman/sophomore team (4-1) plays next on Friday night, Oct. 4. They will travel to face the Grinnell Tigers at 5:00 p.m.
