South Tama County High School senior Kyan McBride signed his letter of intent to play football at Simpson College recently. McBride is a multiple sport athlete at South Tama with participation in football, wrestling, and baseball.

During his senior football season, McBride accomplished many titles including 2nd team All Class 3A District 5 as a defensive lineman. McBride was also the 2nd leading tackler on the Trojans with an impressive 56 tackles on the year.

When asked about his decision to commit to Simpson, McBride was excited for the opportunity.

“I always really wanted to play there, I grew up watching my brother play in college, so I’m excited to start my own chapter at Simpson,” he said.

Even though McBride always had Simpson in mind as a college destination, he really emphasized the impact the visits and conversations with coaches had on his final decision.

“The coaches reached out to me early my junior year and that was nice to be able to schedule visits and get a feel of the college. I really enjoyed the campus and it’s in a good town with stuff to do. After my last visit I sat down with the football coaches and I really liked what they had to offer, I felt it was the perfect move for me to make,” he said.

McBride also gives lots of credit to the people around him that helped him have success in the sport.

“Coach Doran has helped me out a lot in developing me as a player and supporting me by getting my name out to colleges. My parents have also been a huge support to me, especially my dad. He’s always at my games no matter what to cheer me on,” he said.

Both McBride and the South Tama football community will look forward to seeing this Trojan athlete compete in a Simpson uniform next fall.
