WILLIAMSBURG — Amare Chavez and Gavin Bridgewater represented South Tama County boys wrestling on the top of the podium as champions in Saturday’s WaMaC Conference tournament at Williamsburg High School.

Chavez won the 126-pound title and Gavin Bridgewater grabbed the crown at 215. The Trojans were eighth out of 12 teams with 127 points. Mount Vernon won the team title with 202.5 points.

Bridgewater pinned his way to the finals, where he turned away Solon freshman Lucas Feuerbach with a 15-5 major decision in a meeting of two ranked 215 pounders in Class 2A.

In the 126-pound bracket, Chavez also won his first two matches by fall, and defeated Independence’s Tanner Wilson by injury default in the finals.

The Trojans added two third-place finishes from MaCael Bear at 138 and Cyrus Mathes at 165. Clayton Babinat was fourth at 132.
