It was homecoming week for the South Tama Trojans as they prepared for the Grinnell Tigers to come to town. During this Friday night showdown, the stands were more packed than usual as the town has shown up to support the Trojans as they hoped to capture their first win of the season.

The game started out promising for South Tama as senior Kyan McBride recovered a fumble on Grinnell’s first offensive drive. This gave STC some momentum and great field position to start the game on offense.

But unfortunately for the Trojans, the Tigers’ stubborn defense and electric offense was on full display on this night. The defense for Grinnell allowed no points in the first half, forcing the Trojans to punt on all of their drives and only get one first down on offense.

Meanwhile, the offense for Grinnell was not to be stopped, senior running back Kinnick Johnson found the end zone twice to start the offensive attack for the Tigers. Next the Tigers passing game got going as junior quarterback Brady Coffman connected to three different receivers for touchdowns. Cole Blackford, Broc Heishman, Evan Mahoney, and Josh Ringler all found the end zone for a touchdown before half as the Trojans headed into halftime down 42-0.

Coming out of halftime, the Trojans needed a spark of any momentum if they wanted to get back into this game. But the Tigers were not to be defeated today as they scored again to start the half. This time, it was senior running back Andrew Peterson running in for the touchdown to lengthen Grinnell’s lead to 49-0.

Gavin Bridgewater, senior running back for the Trojans put up the only points of the night, scoring on a 70-yard touchdown run to make the score 49-6. Ultimately, this wasn’t enough for the Trojans on this homecoming night as the Tigers won in dominant fashion by the same score.

STC will play their senior night game next Friday at home against the Fairfield Trojans.
