The South Tama County girls tennis team hosted the Marion Wolves on Thursday, April 13 at the STC Tennis Complex. Returning two state qualifiers, Marion proved dominant as they were victorious 8-1. South Tama lone win was at #5 Singles with Katie Husak recording a win over Emma Walton.

Husak’s ground game placed her at an early 6-2 lead. Hitting the ball deep in the court elicited frustration and errors for Walton. Late in the match, Walton gained momentum to even the score to 8-8. Husak took control of the seven-point tiebreaker and refused to give up a single point to her opponent, ending the tiebreaker 7-0 to record a 9-8 victory.

Senior Alondra Bolanos-Lupian matched up against returning state qualifier Natalee Hartman at #1 Singles. Hartman showcased her talent and recorded an 8-0 win for the Wolves. At #2 Singles, STC’s Kara Nachazel also matched up with a former state qualifier. Michaela Goad squashed Nachazel’s grit and determination, winning 8-2.

Sophomore Hannah Houghton returned at #3 Singles against Kadia Cole. In a long range game, Cole ended on top, posting a victory 8-2. Sophomore Brooke Hitchcock took on Chloe Pilcher at #4 Singles. Despite her efforts, Hitchcock managed one of the nine games, losing 1-8.

Senior Cassandra Klostermann rounded out the singles lineup at #6 Singles where she battled Kasia Hahn. Klostermann inexperience proved costly as Hahn won 8-0.

In doubles action, Marion showed their strength, shutting the Trojans down in dominant fashion.
