For teams who attend, the first weekend of wrestling can feel much like the final weekend of wrestling. Independence hosted the Cliff Keen Invitational for the second year and it feels very much like a mini-version of the Individual State Tournament.

The weekend is grueling, with some wrestlers getting in as many as seven matches. Teams from all across the State come including high profile teams like New Hampton and Lisbon and even a few teams from out of State. Christian Brothers College in Missouri, Scott West in Minnesota and Smithville in Missouri all attended the meet.

The lone South Tama wrestler to make the finals was senior, Brady Fritz. Fritz took second to 2nd ranked Drew Bennett from Fort Dodge
