Sports Editor Note: Tyynismaa is a STC graduate of the Class of 2016. Tyynismaa was a multi-year State qualifier in track and field as well as a Drake Qualifier. She is the STC record holder in the 400 M Run. She was also a Cross Country State Qualifier her Senior year. She is the daughter of Robert and Penny Tyynismaa from Tama.
NEW ORLEANS- The Wartburg men’s and women’s track and field programs earned All-Academic Team honors for the 2016-17 NCAA Division III indoor and outdoor track & field season by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
A total of 294 teams (183 women’s, 111 men’s) were honored for their academics by the USTFCCCA.
The men’s team had a GPA of 3.216 and the women’s owned a 3.216 GPA.
Nine men and 11 women for the Knights received individual All-Academic honors, which were announced Friday. A total of 402 men and 608 women earned USTFCCCA All-Academic honors during the 2016-17 track & field seasons.
To qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic honors, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative GPA of 3.25 and must have met at least one of the following athletic standards:
Competed in an NCAA Indoor or Outdoor Championship
Finished the regular season ranked in the national top-35 in an individual event or ranked in the national top-25 in a relay event on the official NCAA Descending Order List.
