The South Tama Trojans celebrated senior night on Thursday, July 6 at Trojan Field. STC’s lone senior, Jonah Bearden, was honored in front of a home crowd along with his parents Chris and Diane Bearden.
South Tama hosted Grinnell in their first and only contest of the season. The Tigers pulled ahead early in the night and the Trojans were not able to play catch up. Grinnell took the lead in the first inning. The Tigers scored three runs in the fourth inning thanks to a single by Ethan Mitchell and a double by Jayden Gibson.

The bright spot for the Trojans was a significant uptick in their production at the plate. South Tama recorded six hits, with Cam Klostermann and Lane Koch each getting two hits and Cael Kellogg and Carter Kriegel each with one. Lane Koch recorded both RBI’s for the Trojans. It had been ten games since the Trojans had a player record multiple hits and to say they were in a funk would be an understatement. But after a win against East Marshall and a competitive outing against Grinnell, the Trojans seem to be righting the ship just in time for the playoffs.
Taking the loss for STC was starting pitcher Lucas Wilkerson. Wilkerson allowed four hits, four runs and one error. Klostermann closed out the night on the mound and allowed five hits, three runs, three errors and walked one.
Grinnell had nine hits in the game. Luke Roudabush and Mitchell each collected multiple hits for Grinnell.
The Trojans will travel to Vinton on Friday, July 14 where they will take on the Vikings at 7:00 p.m. in the opening round of District action.
