Eight named All-Regional

Dylan Kalinay

Sports editor note: Kalinay graduated from STC in 2014. He is the son of James and Tammy Kalinay of Toledo. In his junior year at STC Kalinay was part of the Class 3A State Champion 4×100 team (Dylan Kalinay, Kaleb Davenport, Daryl Bidwell and Kyle Stephenson). He was the only returning member of the STC 4×100 relay team in his senior year. The 2014 quartet of Kalinay, Tyler Blocker, Zach Morris and Robert Tyynismaa placed 5th overall.

INDIANOLA, Iowa Eight members of Simpson’s track and field team earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Central Region honors for their efforts during the 2017 indoor season, as announced by the USTFCCCA earlier this month.

Sam Adeniyi (60-meter hurdles), Jordan Coughenour (4×400-meter relay), Isaac Frazier (60-meter hurdles, heptathlon), Dylan Kalinay (60-meter hurdles), Travis Tupper (4×400-meter relay), Chase Wetterling (4×400-meter relay), Emmitt Wheatley (60 meters, 200 meters) and Kirk Wicks (4×400-meter relay) were recognized after churning out some of the top performances in the region.

Additionally, the men’s team closed the indoor season ranked seventh in the final Central Region rankings.

To be named all-region, an athlete must either be ranked in the top-5 of an individual event in the region according to the final TFRRS data or be part of a top-3 relay team.

The Storm and head coach Dave Cleveland began the outdoor season last weekend at the Central Invitational on Friday, March 31 and Saturday, April 1.
