STC middle school basketball tips off for season

The Eighth Grade girls played back to back games Monday, November 16 and Tuesday November 17, 2015, at the Middle School gym. Their first game was played against the Raiders of Williamsburg. The Trojans started out tough in the first half of the A game with lights out scoring from Makayla Backen. She was 6 of 8 from the three point range. The girls’ movement around the court managed to get Backen open. It seemed like she started hitting 3’s and could not miss. She had 20 points at the end of the game. Clarissa Rosenberger, Kaitlyn Riha, and Kaisha Struve helped Backen in scoring for the night. Rosenberger added 9 points, Riha had 7 points, and Struve with 2. Marcella Victor grabbed 3 boards. However, the Raiders came back in the second half to win the game 54-40.

The B team won their game 9-8. Kaisha Struve scored 4 points, Emily Purk made a 3 pointer, and Makenna Miller added 2. Miller and Jaden St. John tied in rebounds with 3 a piece. Tuesday, the Eighth Grade girls played against Clear Creek Amana. It was a struggle with Clear Creek winning the game 48-15. Top scorer was Kaitlyn Riha with 8 points. Espy Waseskuk made a bucket and a freethrow. Clarissa Rosenberger and Makayla Backen made 1 basket each. Rosenberger had 3 blocked shots for the night along with 2 rebounds and 2 steals.

The B game lost their game 10-12. Kaisha Struve scored 6 points to lead The Trojans. Jaden St. John with 4 points.

The Eighth Lady Trojans will travel to Vinton-Shellsburg on Monday, November 23, 2015, and host Vinton on Monday, November 30, 2015, at the Middle School gym.
