If the Union Knights were looking for any sort of redemption from Friday nights 19-0 varsity shut out, they would again come up empty on Monday night. South Tama’s JV team offered up their own shut out victory (29-0) over the Knights on Monday, September 21. STC’s freshmen team also defeated the Knights 14-6 last Friday night in what would become the first in a three game sweep.

It took one possession for the JV Trojans to find their groove. On their second possession of the night sophomore quarterback Lane Koch connected over the middle with junior receiver Riley Davenport. That pass was key for the Trojans as it really opened up their offense for the night.

The chemistry between Koch and Davenport was evident on Monday as they connected in the second and third quarters. Davenport racked up three of the Trojans four touchdowns. The fourth score came in the fourth quarter. Koch put his arm to work again and hit Brady Fritz who ran it in for a Trojans touchdown.

It was a tough night all around for the Knights. They couldn’t move the ball against the Trojans strong defense. They had a botched punt in the second quarter and a couple of turnovers. Frustrations began to mount and they were flagged for two unsportsmanlike conduct calls throughout the night.

It appears that Union may be going through some growing pains after losing several valuable seniors off their varsity squad that captured the District 6 title last season.

The Trojans simply outplayed Union. STC got a rhythm going on offense and defensively they over powered the Knights. Those factors resulted in a very nice win for STC!

The next matchup for JV will be on Monday, September 28 at South Hardin.
