South Tama was at home for a non-conference game against the Lady Tigers of Grinnell on Tuesday, June 23.

Starting for the Trojans were: 2B Naomi Hoskey, CF Belle Tyynismaa, SS Dani Stubbs, C Catie Collins, DH McKenna Knock, LF Lauren Yuska, 1B Saylor Upah, 3B Serena Lowe, P Julie Wise and RF Shae Slaven.

Starting for Grinnell were 3B Caitlyn Criswell, P Macy Harris, 2B Megan Doty, CF Brielle Beck, SS Bailee Kriegel, RF Jacqueline Criswell, 1B Taegen James, C Kiana Kies, DP Emilee Hulsing and LF Kameron Juni.

Grinnell (7-12) can lament with the Trojans on being in a tough conference. They have had struggles this season and currently rank at the bottom of the Little Hawkeye Conference. The Tigers were looking to improve their record, which they did with an 8-1 victory over the Trojans.

South Tama scored one run in the bottom of the seventh inning. Lauren Yuska hit a single up the middle and made it safely to first. Yuska stole second base during Upah’s at-bat and would be brought around to score by Lowe who picked up the RBI.

The Trojans had a nice defensive stop in the top of the sixth. Criswell was up to bat and hit a pop up to Tyynismaa in center field. With a runner on third, Tyynismaa threw home to Collins who made a tag at the plate to get the runner out.

The Trojans next game is tonight at home against Grundy Center.
