Pastor’s Corner: That’s sick!
Pastor Mike Nodland of the Christian Fellowship Church in Vining, IA.
Being mindful of good health and food preparation during this season’s great flu exchange, I thought it might be good to “review” kitchen health standards since I do all the cooking now. (Actually, I was viewing this info for the first time.) I discovered that 1 out of every 6 Americans will get a foodborne illness (food poisoning) resulting in 3,000 deaths.
And being mindful that eating contaminated food has deplorable results causing disgusting evacuations, avoidance seems the better route. So, what might I be doing wrong? Let’s take a quiz!
For dishes, wash, lather, scrub, rinse and dry. For fresh fruit and vegetables, rinse off, and clean the lids of canned goods before opening. Separate raw meats, chicken, and seafood from the grocery bag to the frig. Thoroughly cook food before eating, not like you did when camping last summer.
How are you doing so far? Pressing on, the FDA advises using paper towels instead of dishwashing cloths. I’m trying to figure out how to scrub a pan of sauteed fish that got away from me, with paper towels. What planet do these government people eat on, anyway?
So, scrub away! But some things don’t go away by scrubbing, resulting in serious sickness…sin sickness. Only Jesus can remove those stains. Trust Him today! He doesn’t need the FDA!
