You’ll Figure It Out: What to Do? What To Do?

John Sheda.
Last week we honored for the 24th time, the tragic events of September 11, 2001. We will never forget that day. But the violence keeps on keeping on. Last week, conservative activist, Charlie Kirk was shot and killed, leaving behind a wife and two young children. Regardless of how you stand on political & social issues, no one in the United States of America should this horrible event, or any others, take place. We should be a better society than this. Should be! But are we? Obviously not. Of course there are fringe elements on both sides of the spectrum and we must always be keenly cognizant of that, BUT, BUT, what about the number of people who cheered for this shooting? Educated people, no less. I’ts good to know that these people who are happy Kirk was shot & killed have been placed on forced leave and even fired. No one, should be happy when someone, conservative, liberal, democrat, republican, or anyone simply expressing their thoughts freely and openly when that person is shot and killed. That’s scary for our society.
So with that said, here’s what I think we could do to solve, (or move in the right direction, at least), our violent nature. PRAYER! That’s controversial right there. In the movie “Rudy,” the Priest remarked to Rudy about the nature of God. The Priest answered saying, “In my 40 years as a Priest, I’ve learned only two things FOR SURE and that’s there is a God and it’s not me.” We must trust God. America needs to return to God. To me, it’s that simple.
2 Chronicles 7:14 tell us, “If my people which are called by my name shall humble themselves, pray and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, forgive their sins and heal their land.”
I know, I know, there’s many that do not believe this way and I understand and even accept this BUT would it hurt to give it a try? America has tried just about everything else and it’s not working. Do we just pass more laws, be more and more afraid or just arm ourselves to the hilt? I don’t think any of these helps or has helped. How many laws can we pass? Heck. put a speeding limit sign up and we all will drive, (my wife, Deb excluded) , AT LEAST, five miles an hour over. My Dad used to have that old Chelsea say, “Laws only keep an honest man honest.” Not a bad thought for an old Boheme’.
I’m sure I’ll get some flack on this, but oh well. Might be worth a try. Let me know at johndebsheda@gmail.com or better yet, give me a jingle at 319.327.4640. As John Lennon said, “Give peace a chance.”
