A Fair View

Editor’s Note: This column will publish in the Friday, June 11 print edition of the News Chronicle.

I was gone for a couple weeks, but I’m back.

The Tama County Board of Supervisors meeting on Monday was a good one and had a mixed group of people. There was a lot of talk about appointing the Board of Adjustment and Zoning Board. When it comes to (former Zoning Commissioner) Craig Sash they refused to tell him why they removed him. All they would say is ‘you know why’ so you have to make your case on that. So much for their transparency. How can you defend yourself when they won’t give a reason? There was only support for Craig Sash and none of the other candidates for Zoning so the supervisors decided to wait until next week. Same with the Board of Adjustment – all those that spoke up were supporting Berleen Wobeter so they moved it also until next week.

With Berleen, the Board of Supervisors said that her application wasn’t complete. That was proved wrong. The problem with this board is that unless you do it their way you will be off your committee. As a former supervisor, myself and others I served with are being accused of stacking the Board of Adjustment and Zoning Board with people who are pro-wind and that is a lie. Interestingly, Supervisor Curt Hilmer, who was on the previous board, is the one saying this. The old board did their very best to appoint people with an open mind and would look at everything before voting on matters. When Curt said that, not one of the TCAT (Tama County Against Turbines) backers who are on the boards now would correct his statement (shows real integrity).

On another subject, there was a lot of talk about turbines and land use. The supervisors were asked what their plan is to replace the income the turbines would bring to Tama County if they get them stopped and in light of the Economic Development being driven out of our county. They did not have an answer. The board acted like it was a shock to them that Economic Development quit. THE BOARD OF SUPERVISORS IS WHO DID IT! This board still can’t see that having stores in the towns help the rural community. THEY ARE BLIND TO EVERYTHING EXCEPT WHAT THEIR AGENDA IS.

Also, Chairman Mark Doland made a statement that no one has questioned his integrity on this Board! I AM, MARK!
