Just Jonathan: Journalistic tag teaming

Jonathan Meyer

One of my favorite things since I started at the paper a little over a year ago, is the art of tag teaming. Many of the greatest articles I have been a part of have been due to different partnerships in the “newsroom”.

When Mike and I got our start, we had quite a few duo articles. Learning the art of writing with someone else present was a definite place of comfort. Some of those articles were heavy hitters as well. I won’t mention them but I urge you to do some research if you’re curious.

Over the summer our biggest use of tag teaming was during RAGBRAI. The terrific trio of Rob, Mike, and yours truly, all together in one place at one time. With multiple cameras and notepads going, we truly captured the essence of the event and had a great time doing it.

In last week’s paper you may have noticed James and I worked together to cover the archery banquet. James had a camera in hand while I manned the notepad and pen. Covering a story with a friend is a perk of the job.

In summation, every time I have collaborated with a friend on a story the product is so much better. In terms of writing and photos, better outcomes occur. From a purely social standpoint I will always take being with a friend in an unfamiliar environment. As the saying goes “teamwork makes the dream work!”
