Pastor’s Corner: “Made the grade!”

Pastor Mike Nodland of the Christian Fellowship Church in Vining, IA.

Remember getting an “F” in school? Ok, you didn’t study and deserved the failing grade. But what about when you studied and got an “F” anyway? Oddly, bad grades stick in our minds more than good grades.

In high school, my physics teacher had multiple-choice questions on quizzes and tests (or multiple “guess” questions, for some of us) which were incredibly difficult. With 99% of the class failing, he’d ridicule us, telling us that a group of monkeys could guess better than we did! But on one of his quizzes, I got an “A,” proving that I was not the baboon he thought I was…at least for that one particular day!

My son did not follow in my footsteps and never knew anything less than one “B” amongst all his “A” grades in college, even though there were times I wondered from which branch he was swinging. But his good grades didn’t make him good!

“Goodness” reminds us that on the sixth day of creation when we were made in the image of God, our Creator said that “it was very good!” God made us in His image! Cherish all human life, born and yet to be born — all humans reflect the image of God!
