You’ll Figure It Out!: New Year’s suggestions

John Sheda

Suggestions sound so much better than resolutions, don’t you think? Here are those obvious ones; losing weight, exercising more, reading the Bible in a year, saving money each paycheck, quitting this or quitting that, and so on the list of those resolutions go on and on…

Here are some ones I think we can all master in 2024:

Take time every so often to do something nice for someone else. “Paying it forward” is the right call on this. Just because…

Take good care of your family. Reach out to family members. Spend more time with them and less money on them.

Do a little volunteering every now and again. Visit a friend in the nursing home. They’ll appreciate it.

Take a few days this coming year and visit interesting places right here in Iowa. Delicious huge tenderloins in St. Olaf.

At the end of each day, take a moment or two and be thankful for your blessings. We all have so many.

Find an interesting charity to donate some money to. There are so many good ones out there.

And for cryin’ out loud, take time to just relax, sit a spell, smile, laugh and enjoy the life you’re living. It can’t be that bad!

This year you will have a few rough spots, (we all do), but you will get through them. You have in the past and you will again.

People will sometimes upset you but try to give them the “benefit of the doubt.” They may be having a horrible day.

Every day take a moment or two to just thank people for any job or service well done.

Send a handwritten note a couple of times this year. Remember birthdays, anniversaries and other special days.

Take time to pray. For family, friends and relatives and so many other people. Our country and world could use some prayer also.

Pay off your credit card this year. “Get ‘er done.” And then pay it off each month. You’ll feel so much better.

Set one or two goals, (reachable ones) this year.

Find one person to give a compliment to. Here’s a good one, “My, my, are you losing weight?”

Let’s hope 2024 is a great year for all of us. Let me know some of your suggestions at jsheda@indytel.com or call me at 319.327.4640.
