Over the course of our lives, we have moved quite a few times and some houses have had their craziness.

In Toledo, OH, we had a back door on the second floor…but no stairway. The brick chimney began to fall, brick by brick, off the roof and into the backyard. The closet rained! That is right–a hole in the roof regularly laundered our clothes. On one occasion, my son located a sizeable hole on the second floor, enabling him to lower a fishing line into the kitchen upon which he would attach a note asking when supper was ready!

The house that won the “Worst Home Award” was in the countryside of Red Oak, IA, where the bathtub would shock us! Yes, a real, genuine jolt every time you turn the tub faucet on. We discovered the electrical system had been poorly grounded and we were getting electrocuted! Also, the second-floor tub leaked, rotting its supports, and was sagging through the ceiling of the living room on the first floor! In the Summer evenings, the breeze would flow into the bedrooms and lift the sheets off the beds!
