Just Jonathan: Looking back at theater camp

Jonathan Meyer.

Last week, I attended a children theater camp production titled “The Secret of the Sphinx” put on by Footliters Traveling Playhouse’s and hosted by the Wieting Theater. What an amazing opportunity for so many young people in our community.

As I grew up and became the person I am today, I attended Camp Creamery at the Wieting Theater every summer. Although the traveling camp is under a new umbrella, I believe it’s a relatively similar experience.

Watching this year’s production, I reflected on all the lessons and memories this camp has brought me, from public speaking skills, new ways to communicate, and meeting plenty of new friends. One of the longest lasting friendships this camp has brought me is with Lori Baier.

Lori has become a great mentor and an ever greater friend. As she is responsible for lining up these camps every year, so many young people in our community thank her for this wonderful opportunity she helped bring us.

Keeping it brief, I’ll leave you with this; Everyone needs a creative outlet. Don’t be afraid to take risks and try new things, the arts are a great place to start!
