Pastor’s Corner: Ladder clatter!
Pastor Mike Nodland of the Christian Fellowship Church in Vining, IA.
What’s fascinating about ladders is that you can make them out of anything and into anything! My neighbor in Newton leaned his ladder against his two-story house for years. When he sold the house, the new neighbors leaned their ladder against the house for several more years!
The more sophisticated use homemade, invented ladders, like semi-strong shipping boxes, climbing garage wall shelving or chairs atop tables to reach the unreachable. I witnessed a chilling sight when a light bulb was changed from atop a ladder suspended from a balcony and tied off by a towing rope to the floor!
The real entertainment begins with the activity undertaken at those heights. Personal experience has shown me that no matter how you cut a tree limb from atop a ladder, that limb will always find a way to hit the ladder you’re on, on its way down, followed by the tree trimmer! Presence of mind, you might grab another limb or the tree trunk on the way, which only complicates the inevitable.
One such man dreamt how he met angels of God on a ladder — Jacob — in the Bible. Fortunately, you don’t need a ladder to reach God. He’s waiting for you, and the view from His end beats the view at the other end every day! Trust Jesus today!
