Pastor’s Corner: Shortcuts Fail!

Pastor Mike Nodland

Have you noticed the very common results of shortcuts? For me, they always seem to make matters worse.

One day, I hit the gas and lurched forward after a shortcut across traffic. However, I didn’t see the cement island between me and the opposite traffic lane and ended up straddling both lanes while traffic swerved around me. Of course, my family was in the car at the time, so no amount of blaming or explaining away covered the embarrassment.

In school, there was a kid who could vomit on demand! One day, he and his buddy decided to skip school by meeting at the pencil sharpener simultaneously. The kid deposited his breakfast on the floor, sparking a similar compulsive reaction from his buddy, and they both got to leave the classroom! Everyone knew what they did, but rather than being sent home. Instead, they had to sit in the nurse’s office, bored beyond belief until the end of the day!

Shortcuts aren’t all of what they’re cranked up to be. Here’s another shortcut that is not worth your time. You cannot just cut off the FRUIT of sin. You must cut off the ROOT of sin! And Jesus did it just for you! Trust Him today!
