To all our veterans, I salute!

I grew up with a soldier, never bragging to me.

He did his job to keep me safe,

So, I could live in the land of the free,

And home of the brave.

He left our shores in ’43, to serve for you and me.

He fought the good fight, coming home expectantly,

So, I could one day honor him-

A true hero, indeed!

Some came home, but some came not.

Some came hurt and some were caught.

Some came tattered and some came worn,

And some wished they’d never been born.

What matters most: “They’re all heroes to me!”

Some sailed upon ships, some fought upon their knees.

Some flew through darkened skies, some swam in the seas.

U-boats hid in silence, enemy pilots dotted the skies,

Mines planted in green fields, guns fired in surprise.

What kept them going? The prayers from you and me.

Hit once-keep going!

Twice-no stopping now!

Thrice-It’s worth it all!

Stand up and give it all!

Those soldiers in our homes and in the graves gave it all,

so

We may live in the land of the free,

And home of the brave.
