Jumpin’ to contusions!

Pastor Mike Nodland

Have you caught yourself jumping to conclusions-even though what you arrived at is absurd?

One evening years ago, the phone rang. Answering it, the caller asked for my wife. Suspicious, I asked what they wanted. The caller, struggling with a speech impediment, asked me to pass on a message to her: “Tell her that this is the Prohibition Center and she can pick it up any time!” Then the caller hung up.

My wife was sitting on the sofa in the next room; so I leaned around the corner to eye her with suspicion. What’s this about? I’d never heard of a prohibition center! Is there a problem I don’t know about?

Curiosity was driving me crazy; so I thought I’d better have a talk with her. Sympathetically, I sat down next to her and told her about the caller’s message. I wanted to know if there was something with which I could help her.

After exhaustive cranial deliberation, we figured it out. It was a call from the Pearl Vision Center and her new glasses were in! Lesson learned from the Bible: “Be swift to hear, slow to speak, slow to wrath!” Good aspirin-free advice!
