Declarations every graduate should make

John Sheda

In 1969 I graduated from South Tama High School. Maybe you’ve heard of it. It was a great school to be a part of and I’m sure it still is, if not even better. Way back then we used note books and writing utensils, not computers, ipads and the such. We actually had to take hand-written notes, (which I seldom did), which helped us when we took quizzes and tests. When writing term papers, essays and other projects, we often used something called, “The Reader’s Guide To Periodical Charts.” Anyone remember them????

Now forty-nine years later I have discovered that making some guidelines or rules for yourself might just help one out when facing moral and important decisions in life. There called “Declarations.” Here are several that must might work for the STC Graduates of 2018…

I declare that in all things in my life, I will remain calm and peaceful, knowing that I can get through anything. I am strong and determined and will not let people or circumstances upset me to the degree that I make bad decisions.

I declare that from this moment on, I choose to live my life happy and will find the path in life I am destined to be on.

I declare I will live victoriously and that I was created and designed to be an overcomer. I will speak victory, think victory and expect victory every single day of my life.

I declare that I will be a people person. I will look for ways to help people, encourage people and to bring out the best in others by being the best in myself

I declare I will live with purpose, passion and praise, knowing that my life is not an accident. I am designed for a great purpose in life.

I declare that I will believe in God who loves me and helps me through life’s most difficult situations. I will dedicate my life to him.

I declare that I am uniquely created for such a time as today. I have my place in life and I will do my part to make my corner of the world a better place to be.

I declare that even though life can be tough at times, I am tougher at all times.

A declaration is a statement that makes something known formally and officially. It is a set of words that states firmly and confidently the way things are and are going to believe. Two of the greatest Declarations is The Declaration of Independence and The Word of God. Let me know what you think at jsheda@indytel.com or call me at 319.327.4640. What are some of your “Declarations?”
