What’s Happening at the Wieting?

We have a lot of talented people appear on stage at the Wieting. Not everyone who gets on stage sings, dances or tells jokes. One always sat at the piano and contributed so much to our programs. This was Gerry Campbell. How can a great piano player that marks down just a few notes and that was the whole song she played from. That was so neat and if I hadn’t participated in many musical productions that she played for I wouldn’t have believed it. The talent she shared with us has been unforgettable. If the sheet music was in one key and the singer needed it changed, Gerry would do it, and she never needed anything but her book with her few notes written down.

The guild always did a specific skit with a song involved. One we liked to do was “Rag-Mop”. We, as cleaning ladies singing our hearts out, but only as long as Jo Darter was there. We couldn’t remember the words, but Jo could. She saved us most times we did our skit. We were like one of our old guild members used to say about herself, “I can’t chew gum and walk at the same time.” That was the same with us singers, we couldn’t be cleaning and doing our silly stuff and remember the words to our song. Thank you Jo.

Also Gerry would always either wait for us to catch up to her or she would speed up to catch us. We all worked together.

Thank you Gerry, the stage hasn’t been the same since you moved on.
