This Sunday, June 21, is the day we honor good ‘ol Dad, or as some say, the “old man.” It’s a day set aside to give dad the chance to do anything he wants…within reason of course, (which is what Deb always says). Drat! The past week or so, I’ve had my team of investigative reporters going out and asking some thoughts about your dad. They searched high and low, north to south and east to west to come up with your thoughts about “Fatherhood.” Here are some of their responses,

The first question we asked was, “What were some of your Father’s favorite things to say?”

* Son, I’m not just talking to hear my own voice.

* Don’t forget to check the oil….this time.

* Listen, you’re gonna like it whether you like it or not.

* Someday you’re gonna thank me for making you do this.

* You have life so easy now-a-days. Why when I was your age…

* Boy, don’t you look at me with that tone of voice.

* I don’t care what Tommy or Billy is doing. I’m your father, not theirs.

* Don’t make me stop this car!

* Huh. Go ask your mother.

* Who ever said life was supposed to be fair?

* Shake it off, a little pain never hurt anyone.

* Turn off the lights. Do you think I’m made of money?

The second question asked was, “What’s the best advice Dad ever gave you?”

* Son, listen to anyone wearing a tool belt or a uniform.

* Always carry a clean hankie. They come in handy.

* Stop worrying so much. I’m still here, ain’t I?

* Enjoy April Fool’s Day.

* Never brag about doing the right thing.

* Be a generous tipper.

* Sometimes it’s necessary to drop everything and go help someone.

* Ask questions. If you don’t know the answer, I’ll guarantee you others don’t either.

* If you want to find the easy way to do something, ask a lazy person.

And finally, we asked, “What was one thing you remember about your dad?”

* He led by example, at least most of the time.

* He was a good provider. I felt safe at home.

* He spent not only quality time with us kids, but quantity time as well.

* He had a unique way of making us laugh, even during difficult times.

* He taught me good solid values.

* He wasn’t perfect, not by a long ways, but he always tried his best.

So to all you Dads out there….HAPPY FATHER’S DAY. Enjoy doing anything you want. Tell your wife John said it was ok……….ah, it is ok, right Deb????
