Toledo Farmers Market
Market Report for July 11th 2014
A busy night was had at this Toledo Farmers Market. The Stoplight Festival and the Chamber BBQ filled the air with plenty of noise and delicious aromas. This week at market was a little crammed. But that didn’t stop the vendors from bringing their products for their customers to purchase.
Devin and Mason had perennials, and kohlrabi. Kristi had here delicious Czech Bakery, cookies and cinnamon rolls. Red Earth Gardens Market Stand was full of cucumbers, zucchini, cabbage, peas, kohlrabi, kale, broccoli, green, and yellow beans, onions, cauliflower, and cute flower bouquets. Cindy had potatoes, peas, and green beans. Carlyn was back with her cotton candy, snack mixes, kettle and caramel corn, and jams. Welcome back, we are all happy to see you. Shirley, Freddie, and Michael had their Czech bakery and noodles. Leah was new to the market this week with hair bows. Will and Thea had candles, hair bows, and soaps. A new item this week was little scrapbooks. Keller’s Berry Farm had red raspberries. Chuck and Ginger had pies, breads, kolaches, leeks, beets, green beans, summer squash, cabbage, potatoes, cucumbers, and popcorn. Dawn had jams, snack mixes, rosettes, black raspberries, mulberries, rhubarb, onions, fresh cut herbs, and beets. Sheryl had her ceramics, towel sets, scrubbies, potholders, hankie dolls. This week she had scrubbies on a stick for dishes and body scrubbies. You would think you’re at the Iowa State Fair. Karen had her soy candles and soy candle products. The Nieland girls had eggs.
I hope everyone had a good market and lots of fun. If you missed this market there are plenty of markets left to attend.
Mark those calendars for Friday nights from 5-7 pm on the east side of the courthouse square and visit your favorite vendor.
The vegetables are finally starting to produce. This week I purchased some cucumbers from Ginger and they were delicious. I made a salad for my mothers surprise birthday party on Sunday. Happy Birthday Granny biscuit!!! Glad we were able to surprise you.
Cucumber Salad
3 cucumbers, peeled and sliced
2 sweet onions, peeled and sliced
Toss the cucumbers and onions with a little kosher salt. Set aside and let wilt. Mix together ? cup Italian dressing, ? cup white vinegar, ? cup sugar and a dash of coarse black pepper. Mix together until sugar is dissolved. Rinse wilted cucumbers and onions and drain. Once drained mix with dressing and put in the refrigerator over night.
There you have it, the famous cucumber salad the Carlson family members love.
