Market report for July 4, 2014

This market didn’t start with a bang. It started with the blow of the whistle. My little granddaughter, Morgyn, blew the whistle to start this market. Last week Austin blew the whistle. Yes, I am training them well. There was a large crowd with 10 vendors for them to choose their item for the night.

Cindy had finally arrived at market with peas. Keller’s were there with red raspberries and cherries. Dale had honey, honey stick’s, and a new product they are making called “Bug Off”. Chuck and Ginger had leeks, beets, green beans, cabbage, summer squash, broccoli, potatoes, and baked goods including pies. Dawn had beets, black and yellow raspberries, broccoli, potatoes, peas, sweet onions, rhubarb, rosettes, jams and fresh herbs. Sheryl had her cute ceramics along with homemade towel sets and scubbies. Shirley, Freddie, and Michael had their good ole Czech bakery and noodles. Joe and Barb brought potatoes, onions, zucchini, leeks, kale, jams, and breads. Kathy had rolls, nut coils, cinnamon rolls, kolaches, elephant ears, and snack mixes that didn’t last very long. Will and Thea had their candles, patriotic wreaths, bows and some new soap. The aromathea soaps now available are rubber ducky, rubber froggy, white sheep, black sheep, coffee hand soap, red, white & blue star soap, light house soap, butterflies with the scent of cotton candy & banana, and net scrubby soap on a rope. I purchased the coffee hand soap & I love it. I am sure I missed something so be sure to come out on Friday nights on the east side of the courthouse square and visit your favorite vendor at the Toledo Farmers Market.

Joe and Barb Imhoff are new vendors this year to the Toledo Farmers Market. They moved to the Toledo area in 2013 from Illinois.

Barb Werner Imhoff is a native Tama/Toledo resident who has come home. When they lived in Illinois they were active in the small farmers market in Dwight, Ill. They provided fresh produce, jams, and baked goods to the customers of that market.

They bring fresh produce, baked goods, and jams to the market every Friday, and plan on returning next year. In addition to the normal garden vegetables, Joe enjoys trying to grow some that are not as common. Be sure to stop by and say hello. Don’t be afraid to ask for something that you cannot find at the market. Joe always likes to find new items that the customers may enjoy. WELCOME to the Toledo Farmers market family Joe and Barb.

With all this rain and stormy weather it is hard to get the rest of the garden planted. The weeds are plentiful also. I do hope everyone is staying safe and dry. Let’s pray that Mother Nature gives us a break in the next few weeks. I read a quote the other day, “I have a therapist, and her name is Mother Nature.” Well, that is very true for me, but it’s a little hard for me to attend my therapy sessions when it keeps raining all the time.
