Market Report for June 27, 2014

Rain, rain, go away come back another day. But the rain didn’t stop the Toledo Farmers Market. That’s right, there was market. It was a little soggy, but the market goes on. Eleven vendors braved the weather to come to the Toledo Farmers Market on Friday.

Kristi had her table full of delicious Czech bakery, along with other baked goods. Devin and Mason had onions, radishes, and perennial plants. Darold had peas, onions, turnips, Chinese cabbage, green peppers, jalapenos, and potatoes. Keller Berry Patch had red raspberries, strawberries, and cherries. Chuck and Ginger’s table was full of pies, kolaches, breads, broccoli, gooseberries, beets, leeks, cabbage, green beans, potatoes, and peas.

Dawn had peas, turnips, beets, red raspberries, fresh herbs, mulberries and snack mixes. Sheryl had her cute ceramics, potholders, towel sets, hankie dolls, and scrubbies.

Joe, let me apologize for calling you Jim last week in my article. But hey, at least I know someone is reading them. Well Joe and Barb had beets, radishes, lettuce, peas, broccoli, breads, cinnamon rolls, and jams. Kathy came with her so delicious bakery, nut coils, cinnamon rolls, cookies, snack mixes, and brownies. Wish I had bought some of those nut coils this week. Karen brought her soy candles and soy candle products. And Nina had pies, and breads. I am sure I missed something so be sure to come out on Friday nights from 5-7 pm and purchase from your favorite vendor at the Toledo Farmers Market.

Let me introduce you to Kristi. She has been selling for about 15 years. Kristi wanted a second income and still be able to raise her kids at home. Well, is there a better way to do it, than to sell at farmers markets? The kids could help her, and learn work ethics, some arithmetic, and how to work with the public. When Kristi started she did bakery, veggies along with plants, perennial and annual.

She has passed the veggies and the perennial plants and veggies on to her daughter Devin. Kristi bakes tea rings, kolaches, rohlicky, cinnamon, and caramel rolls, pies, cookies, bars, rye bread, and sweet breads.

Devin and Mason sell right alongside her mother Kristi. Devin has helped her mother since she started In the past 4 or 5 years Devin has taken over the perennial plants and produce. Now Devin has her son Mason to help her. What a family tradition to carry on. Be sure to come out the Toledo Farmers Market and visit with Kristi, Devin, and Mason.
