Even in spite of the current decadent and oppressive moral atmosphere dominating Iowa politics today, there are still refreshing breaths of fresh air.

Unitarian-Universalist churches and fellowships (often called “UU’s”) have had a long and positive historic presence throughout America, as well in Iowa. Great philosophers and thinkers such as Emerson and Thoreau and many others frequented meetings. UU attendees are known for being considerate of all beliefs and for encouraging one to be open-minded, to learn, and to seek one’s own truth.

True to form, the Peoples UU Church in Cedar Rapids has just set up a “Free Little Library” outside the front entrance of its building that’s available for anyone to use. What’s unique about this little library is that it has been stocked with important contemporary and classic books, including ones that our power-hungry politicians (who want to control what everyone thinks) have taken upon themselves to ban from our school and public libraries. Adults and kids alike can access those excellent books at this Little Library.

Thankfully, there are still Iowans as well as denominations who are working to build an inclusive and compassionate path forward.
