IVCCD, South Tama Boards recognized

for service

“School Boards Strengthen Public Education” is the theme of Iowa’s School Board Recognition Month, being celebrated this month statewide.

Serving on the Iowa Valley Community College District (IVCCD) Board of Directors are Larry Johnson of Iowa Falls (District 1); Deb Crosser of Eldora (District 2); Delbert Kellogg of Marshalltown (District 3); Deborah Jones of Clemons (District 4); Chairman Conrad Dejardin of Marshalltown (District 5); Vice Chair Yvonne Mallory of Toledo (District 6); and Paul Pohlson of Grinnell (District 7). IVCCD operates Marshalltown Community College, Ellsworth Community College in Iowa Falls, Iowa Valley Continuing Education, and Iowa Valley Grinnell (a satellite campus of MCC), as well as the Orpheum Theater Center in Marshalltown.

According to the Iowa Association of School Boards (IASB), there are 124 elected Iowa community college board members serving Iowa’s 15 community college districts. Community college board members are elected to four-year terms of office and provide hundreds of voluntary hours of service each year.

“Having worked directly with our IVCCD Board of Directors for the last five years, I am exceptionally pleased with their support given to our administrative team and to our institution as a whole,” says Dr. Chris Duree, IVCCD Chancellor. “Our Board members not only work well together, they work well with the College staff and faculty. Their commitment to our continuous quality improvement initiatives is very much appreciated by all of us. We’re pleased to be able to recognize them during Iowa’s School Board Recognition Month.”

The South Tama School Board includes Michelle Yuska, president, Mark McFate, Alan Kline, Anne Michael and Jackine Dvorak.

The Iowa School Board Association says volunteer school board members spend thousands of hours each year analyzing budgets, monitoring student achievement data, adopting effective policies and making key decisions to ensure that each Iowa student receives an excellent education. The Iowa Association of School Boards (IASB) invites communities to celebrate and thank their local school board members during School Board Recognition Month in May 2015.

Iowa’s volunteer school board members are providing innovative leadership, through responsibilities ranging from strong financial stewardship to ensuring high-quality curriculum, to make sure all students are able to grow and prosper through their education.

There is a total of 1,918 board member seats in Iowa.
