In less than three weeks I’ll be one of 5,556 delegates to the Democratic National Convention arriving in Charlotte North Carolina to cast a ballot to re-nominate President Obama as my party’s candidate. I’m both excited and honored to have been selected by fellow Democrats to represent them.

Nominating a presidential candidate is just one of the responsibilities we’ll be charged with. We’ll also be adopting a platform that will serve as the blueprint for success in November, but more importantly, it will also serve as the foundation for the policies that we believe will create jobs; promote educational opportunities and restore the dream of a better future for our children. We will not advocate going back to a health care system that denies Americans with pre-existing conditions access to affordable health insurance or make it impossible for low income women to access family planning services.

The Democratic National Convention will reestablish the party as the voice of working people, small business owners, family farmers, and veterans. We will maintain our position as the party of civil rights and equal opportunity. We will continue our role as the party that trusts women to make personal health care decisions and our role as the party that stands for respecting the rights of all loving couples and their children to enjoy the same rights, privileges and responsibilities afforded by the Constitution.

I’m looking forward to playing a small part in the process that I believe will lead to the reelection of President Obama and the election of a Congress that will put America back to work.
