Daniel Suchy

Daniel Gabriel Suchy, 72, passed away peacefully at home on September 14, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Dan was born on May 14, 1954, to Milo Suchy and Alice (Viktora) Suchy. As the youngest of six children, he grew up with a strong sense of family that remained at the center of his life throughout the years. Dan worked for many years at Victor Manufacturing, where he was known for his dedication, reliability and strong work ethic. In 1976, he married Karen Hoelscher, and together they had four daughters: Emily Clarkson (Seth), Erica Eganhouse (Michael), Erin Suchy Johnson (Eric) and Elisha Crow (Brian).

In 2000, Dan married Verla (Meints) Suchy. Together they shared a love of travel, camping and spending time in the timber they called home. Among their many adventures were an Alaska cruise in 2023 and a Caribbean cruise with his wife and four daughters in February 2026, creating memories that will be cherished forever. Whether traveling, sitting around a campfire or simply enjoying time together at home, Dan and Verla built a life filled with love, laughter and companionship.

Dan had a lifelong love of the outdoors. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and spending as much time outside as possible. He was also a builder at heart, always working on a project, creating something with his hands or finding a way to improve and fix things. One of his favorite projects was building his own indoor swimming pool. Over the years, he also created zip lines, treehouses and countless other projects that brought enjoyment to his family. His resourcefulness, ingenuity and willingness to help others were qualities that family and friends deeply admired.

Dan's generosity extended beyond his family and community. He was especially proud to have donated 18 gallons of blood throughout his lifetime, a reflection of his desire to help others whenever he could. More than anything, Dan loved his family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. His greatest joy was spending time with those he loved, whether on family vacations, at gatherings or simply sharing stories and laughter together. He especially cherished his grandchildren: Eden, Isaaq, Atira, Avram, Amaris, Ellison, Eli, Elliotte and Cooper. The legacy of his love, guidance and steady presence will continue to live on in all who knew him. Dan is survived by his wife, Verla Suchy; his daughters: Emily Clarkson (Seth), Erica Eganhouse (Michael), Erin Suchy Johnson (Eric) and Elisha Crow (Brian); his grandchildren: Eden, Isaaq, Atira, Avram, Amaris, Ellison, Eli, Elliotte and Cooper; his sisters, Karen Suchy, Delonde Suchy, and Veronica (Dave) Porter; sister-in-law, Deanna (Dave) Harms and many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Milo Suchy and Alice (Viktora) Suchy, and his brothers, Dean Suchy and Richard Suchy.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, September 17, from 3:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Suchy residence, 3223 Highway 30, Elberon, Iowa. Guests are encouraged to dress for the weather, bring boots if they would like to walk in the woods and enjoy the outdoors, wear camouflage and come prepared with stories and memories to share as we celebrate Dan's life. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center, the American Cancer Society, or by donating blood in Dan's honor. Dan will be remembered for his love of family, his appreciation for the outdoors, his hardworking spirit and the kindness and generosity he showed to others. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories and a family that was blessed by his love. “A life spent building, exploring and loving his family is a life well lived.”
