Royce York

Royce Lynn York, 76, of Montour, passed away Wednesday, August 19, 2026 at the Dennis and Donna Oldorf Hospice House of Mercy in Hiawatha. A Memorial Graveside Service with military honors will be held Saturday, September 5, 2026 at 10:30 AM at the Ladora/North Sumner Township Cemetery, Marengo, IA. A Celebration of Life will follow at 12:00 PM at the Tama American Legion Hall.

Royce was born on January 25, 1950, in Belle Plaine, Iowa, the son of Edwin and Lois (Robinson) York.

He graduated from HLV High School in 1968.

Royce served his country in the U.S. Army during Vietnam.

On February 23, 1969, he was united in marriage to Margaret “Magi” Timm at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Victor, Iowa. Royce worked for Farmhand Inc. in Grinnell, then worked in the weatherization program at MICA, retiring in 2015. Royce was a member of the Tama American Legion and was formerly on the Ambulance and Fire Department in Tama. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and bird watching. Royce loved the outdoors. In his younger years, he loved to play softball and liked playing horseshoes at the Iowa State Fair.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-seven years, Magi of Montour; his daughter, Chariti Steuhm of Cedar Rapids; two sons, Joshua (Ashley) York of Cedar Rapids, and Seth York of Amarillo, TX; seven grandchildren, Kylynn “Punky” (Matt) Steuhm-Huston, Kade Steuhm, Hunter (Raechel) Eygabroad, Kelsie York-Morris, Alayna York, Joslyn York, and Austyn Lasley; great-grandson, Silas Eygabroad; brother, Keith (Debbie) York of Victor; sisters-in-law, Betty York of Ladora, and Julie York of Cedar Rapids; and many nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents; his twin brother, Ross, and older brother, Lee York.
