Raynard Arp

Raynard G. Arp, 95, of Toledo, passed away Thursday, July 2, 2026 at Accura Health Care in Toledo. A Visitation will be on Tuesday, July 7, 2026 from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm at Kruse-Phillips Funeral Home in Tama. A Graveside Service with military honors will be held at Crystal Cemetery in rural Toledo at 2:30 pm on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, following a luncheon at the Tama American Legion.

Ray was born on October 31, 1930, in rural Tama County, Iowa, the son of Milo and Doris (Berry) Arp. He was the first of eight children and went to Bruce #4 country school where he graduated from the 8th grade. With the passing of his mother in 1947, Ray helped his family until he was drafted into the United States Army in 1952. He was a Private First Class in the Korean Conflict and was awarded an honorable discharge in 1954.

December 18, 1955, Ray was united in marriage to Betty McMurray, in Tama. Together they raised three children. He enjoyed farming, going to dances, playing cards, bowling, camping, fishing and traveling. Ray was a long-time member of the Eagles Club in Tama, was a member of the Eagles Traveling Bowling League, and the Toledo Legion in Toledo. In 1980, when he was forced to give up farming and moved to town. Ray worked different jobs. He retired at 62, and ended up driving semi until he was 80. Ray will be remembered by his loving family and friends.

Survivors include his wife of over 70 years, Betty, of Toledo; children, Allen (Donna) Arp of Conroy, Delynn (Corinna) Arp of Toledo and Jolene (Fred) Diers of Albia; many grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; sister, Arlene Horstmann of Gladbrook; brothers, Larry (Nancy) Arp of Virginia, Dean (Wanda) of Tama; brother-in-law, Vernon Smith; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Preceding him in death were his parents; three sisters, Leila Staker, Vivian Lacina, Aletta Wagner, one brother, LaVerne Arp; sister-in-law, Marilyn Smith, and Colleen Nekola; and brothers-in-law, Roger Lacina, Lemoine Staker, Henry Horstmann, Robert Wagner, and a niece, Dorreen Roberts.
