David Klenk
David Klenk, 78, a longtime resident of Chelsea, Iowa, and recently of Toledo, passed away on April 8, 2026. David was born on October 25, 1947, to Charlie and Bessie (Duda) Klenk.
He was the epitome of an Iowa farmer, having spent his life rooted on the multi-generational family farm for 77 years. After marrying in 1975, Janene (Green) joined him in the farm operation, which included raising and feeding cattle, hogs, and poultry, as well as milking cows. After retiring from crop farming later in life, he worked part-time at the Tama Sale Barn.
David was a Jefferson Township Trustee for 40 years, oversaw the Rector Cemetery, and dug many graves by hand in several local cemeteries. He was passionate about restoring antique tractors, doing lathe work and repairs, and welding in his shop.
While he didn’t have to say a word about his faith, his life and well-respected character proved his love for Jesus’ teachings and example. David was known as an amazing gardener, an excellent cook, and a great storyteller, whose stories were always entertaining and followed by a chuckle and a grin.
He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Janene Klenk; his son, Loren (Alissa) Klenk; and his only grandchild, Sienna, who was his pride and joy. He is also survived by his siblings, Doris Klenk (Cedar Falls), Marilyn Walker (Denver, IA), Jeanne VanLoon (Ankeny), Janet Klenk (North Dakota), and Carol (Harry) Black (Cedar Falls); and his cousin, Allan Plesek (Brooklyn), who was more like a brother to him.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Carl Klenk (Grinnell).
A visitation will be held on April 17, 2026, from 4-7 p.m. at Hrabak-Neuhaus Funeral Service in Belle Plaine, Iowa. Per David’s wishes, there will be no funeral, and a private burial at Rector Cemetery will take place at a later date.
The family wishes to thank those who have offered their love and support during this time.
